I honestly feel like I am going to be a big kid for life. I love cartoons. Back in the mid 80s-90’s, Saturday Morning cartoons were the best. I watched a ton of cartoons:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Disney’s Adventures of the Gummi Bears
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe
Tiny Toon Adventures
Alvin and the Chipmunks
Batman: The Animated Series
Pinky and the Brain
Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers
G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero
Tiny Toon Adventures
Ahh!! Real Monsters
Tom and Jerry
A Pup named Scooby Doo
The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
Captain Planet and the Planeteers
School House Rock
The Super Mario Bros. Show
And many others that I remember back from that time.
Then there was the Cartoon Network 90’s-2000 era: Powerpuff Girls, Cow & Chicken, I am Weasel, Courage the Cowardly Dog, My Gym Partner’s a Monkey, Dexter’s Laboratory, Johnny Bravo, Codename: Kids Next Door, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, What Happened to… Robot Jones?, Mike, Lu, & Og, Sheep in the Big City, Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, Samurai Jack, Camp Lazlo, Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi, Ben 10, Grim & Evil, Class of 3000, and many other beloved cartoons. I still watch cartoons. My favorite ones right now are Regular Show and Adventure Time. I watch anime as well. More on that later on in a future blog post.
I love roller coasters. The faster the better. I used to play video games. I haven’t played them in awhile. I want to get back into being a hardcore gamer. I love cereal (even though I have to slow down from eating it from time to time). I love to laugh. I love to smile. I love to have fun. Even though I don’t have kids of my own, I love to play with them. I used to work at my Godmom’s Daycare for a few years. Kids seem to love me. That’s a good thing! So I guess in a way I have a spirit of a child ^_^.
Now I have my moments when I need to be serious and responsible. We all do. But after those serious and responsible moments pass, I am in big kid mode. Just think of me as Robin Williams character in Hook or Tom Hanks character in Big. Even Will Ferrell playing the awesome character of Buddy the Elf in Elf. Of course I can’t overload myself with candy anymore (more on that in a future blog post). Being a kid was the most freeing time ever! You didn’t have to worry about anything. Bills, career plans, or any other adult responsibilities. You can run around in circles until you got dizzy and just pass out. Play Hide and Seek or Red Rover with your friends until your parents call you inside for dinner (or until the porch lights come on). I know there are many other childhood games that I could have named. Those two just popped up in my head.
The one thing that I didn’t like as a kid was getting whoopings. I didn’t get that many when I was kid, but when I did LAWD JESUS! Those whoopings are not fun at all. I have been whooped with belts, swtiches, and telephone cords. Then you hear the classic parent sayings before or while they are whooping you: “This gonna hurt me, more than it hurts you,” “Stop moving! Stay still!,” and the ever so famous, “Stop crying!” Yeah how am I going to stop crying when the way you whoop me feels like I am being stung by 10,000 killer bees. Maybe even worse. Remember how your parents used to whooped you and they would break up each word to complete a single sentence or statement? “Didn’t — I — tell — you — not — to — do — that?” I remember that as if it was yesterday.
There was one incident where I got a whopping. I was over my aunt’s house. I was about 7 maybe. My family was supposed to go somewhere. I think it was out to eat or something. I can remember my mom or one of my aunts telling me not to mess up my clothes. One of my good friends who stayed across the street from my aunt wanted me to play with her. So I decided to. I went into her backyard. She had the sprinkler system going on. Or was she holding the water hose about to turn it on? I can’t remember. All I remember is what my mom and aunts told me about not getting dirty. But that kind of went out the window and I ended up getting my clothes wet. So when I went back across the street over my aunt’s house, I was in for some trouble. They all got mad at me. I had to go outside, pick a switch from the tree (a good sturdy one), and bring it back in the house. I got a whooping from my mom and all three of my aunts. It was brutal. Oh the flashbacks I am having right now. If there was one thing that I do not want to relive, its that.
There is nothing wrong with being a big kid. I mean that’s what keep you young and lively. You know what they say: “You are only as young as you feel.” I maybe be paraphrasing that quote, but it still hold true. I want to laugh, have fun, and smile. Isn’t that what everybody wants in life? Just to be happy? I know that’s what I want. People can be a tight ass if they want to. I know what its like not to not be happy. To be irritable all the time. To have people look at you and ask, “Why you so look mean?” It sucks. But now I am working on making myself happy. Because its so much better to smile through life than to be sad. Life is too short to be sad people. That’s why I want to live my life to the fullest. So I am the female Peter Pan. I will never grow up!
I’ll leave you with this quote:
“You’re dead if you aim only for kids. Adults are only kids grown up, anyway.”
